Ilse Thomas died on September 2, 2012 at the WildÁower Court in Juneau.She was born on May 30, 1925 in Berlin Germany to Josef and Paula Manka.Not long after she and her husband Helmut were married they moved to the America. They settled in Juneau. They lived up at Salmon creek where her husband worked at the power plant. From there they moved to Douglas. She worked at First NationalBank and with Fish and Game. She enjoyed planning deer hunting trips with Helmut and her job of putting up the meat. She talked of her many trips over the Chilkoot trail, and her travels around the world.She would always say don't put it off, do it now. She looked forward to Friday trips to the Hanger for Àsh and chips along with apple crisp. She learned to play poker with friends at the Fireweed place. With Ilse if it needed to be done she did it and if she didn't know how she taught herself. She was the most organized person I knew. Thanks Ilse for helping me and for your friendship.She was preceded in death by husband Helmut. They rest side by side now at the Alaska Memorial Park, together again.She is survived by her brother Rudolf and sister-in-law Annemarie Manka of Gladbeck, Germany; a sister Renate Wellnitz of Berlin Germany, along with many friends.No services planned. A gathering of friends will be held sometime in the future. Remember Ilse by walking the Douglas Highway or treat yourself to ice cream...she would enjoy both.
