Ingolf MaurstadIngolf (Ing) B. Maurstad, 89, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Dow Rummel Village, Sioux Falls, SD. Ingolf Byron Maurstad, son of Ingard and Marie (Aase) Maurstad was born on June 11, 1927, in Boone County, NE. He grew up in Newman Grove, NE, graduating from Newman Grove High School before attending Midland College (Fremont, NE) and Augustana College (Sioux Falls, SD) where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1951. After enlisting in the US Navy in 1945, he served until honorably discharged in 1946. Ing was united in marriage with Marilyn Sophia Gimbel on August 28, 1949 in Rapid City, SD. They resided in Fremont, NE, Sioux Falls, SD, Pierre, SD, North Platte, NE and Lincoln, NE before moving to Beatrice, NE in 1955. Ing was in the insurance business his entire career, first employed by General Adjustment Bureau, and then as owner of Maurstad Adjustment Services, and later as Maurstad Insurance Services before retiring in 2005. An early-day entrepreneur, Ing brought One Hour Martinizing dry cleaning franchise to Beatrice in the late 1960's. He was an active civic leader, serving on the Beatrice Public School Board, YMCA and Rotary International (Paul Harris Fellow). He was a member of Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Masonic Lodge #26 and Sesostris Shrine. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran Church. He served as a member of church council, choir, and many committees. In 2005, Ing moved to Sioux Falls, SD. He married Marilyn Faye Burke on March 19, 2005. In Sioux Falls, he was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Nordic Men's Glee Club. Ing was synonymous with the game of golf in Nebraska. He was a long-time member of Beatrice Country Club, served on the Board of Directors, won local and state tournaments, and qualified for USGA Senior Amateur Championship. He was assistant coach for Beatrice High School boys and girls golf teams. He was past president of the Nebraska Amateur Golf Association. In 2004, Ing was awarded the Dr. Herbert H. Davis and Herbert H. Davis. Jr. Memorial Award by the Nebraska Golf Hall of Fame for his behind-the-scene contributions to make golf better for everyone in Nebraska. He was also a member of the United States Golf Association, serving on the Rules Committee. A rules expert, Ing served as a Rules Official for countless local, state, and national tournaments, including Nebraska High School championships, NCAA Regional and National events, Nebraska Golf Association and United States Golf Association Championships.Ing enjoyed all sports and was a fitness enthusiast many years ahead of the present-day trend. In addition to golf, he played racquetball, handball, and tennis. He was a member of the Augustana College football team. He was an excellent gin rummy and bridge player, including contract bridge. He loved to read and enjoyed music, especially jazz. He also loved two-seater, fast cars, from his first 1967 MGB to a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette at age 80.Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Marilyn Burke Maurstad, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Deborah (Ken) Dreher, Hastings, MN, Jacqueline (John) Young, Beatrice, NE, Christina (Timothy) Chelgren, Sioux Falls, SD Sonya (Timothy) Doyle, Beatrice, NE and son David (Karen) Maurstad, Ashburn, VA, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister, Joanne Hadland, Bloomington, MN, brother Douglas (Cathy) Maurstad, Alcester, SD, and many nieces and nephews and friends.Ing was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn Gimbel Maurstad of Beatrice, NE, parents Ingard and Marie Maurstad of Sioux Falls, SD, Infant twin brother Marion Roger Maurstad, brothers Duane Maurstad, Green Valley, AZ, and Marion Juell Maurstad, Elk Point, SD and sister, Henrietta Mongerson, Clearwater, FL. Memorial Service will be held at Halladay-Peterson Chapel, Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 10 AM with Rev. Tim Worthington officiating and Rev. Dr. John Christopherson delivering the message. Interment will be in Beatrice, NE on Friday, April 14, 2017.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Augustana College or Halladay-Peterson Chapel with Miller Funeral Home in charge.
