Hewitt-Wedel, 96, of Rockford, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in Wesley Willows Health Center, Rockford, IL. She was born on April 21, 1921, to Earl and Florence (Biester) Wenzel in Belvidere, IL. On August 11, 1943, she married Reverend Clare B. Hewitt in Kirkland, IL. He died in 1980. Iolene married Richard Wedel on April 22, 1989; he also preceded her in death. Iolene graduated from the University of Illinois and was a teacher for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women at Court Street United Methodist Church in Rockford and an avid knitter. Survivors include her children, John (Sharon) Hewitt of Cooper City, FL, Carolyn Hewitt and Kathy Hewitt, both of Sycamore, Jean Moe of Rock Falls, IL, and Jarri Lynn Hewitt of Rockford; grandchildren, Brian (Jessie) Hewitt, David (Hiromi) Hewitt, Sara Moe and Andrew (Heidi) Moe; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Moe.Preceded in death by her husbands; daughter, Judy Hewitt; sister, Frances Wickwire; and son-in-law, Reverend Thomas Moe.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017, in the Chapel at Wesley Willows, 4141 North Rockton Ave., Rockford.
