It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Iona Phyllis Spencer, born on November 4, 1940, in Brunswick, Georgia, United States. Iona passed away on June 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Iona was the beloved daughter of Rev. Homer and Lula Bell Weeks, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Iona Phyllis Leannna Spencer was born in Boston Georgia, on November 4, 1940. She attend school at Risley High School in Brunswick, GA in which she participated in school activities and had many friends. She is the mother of three children, Monyea “Kim” Weeks (Brunswick,GA) , Dale Kennick (Brunswick,GA), and Kay Barron (Columbus, GA). Iona was also a proud grandmother to two grandchildren to Kayla and Adrianna Barron (Columbus GA) and a loving great-grandmother to Braylon, Milah, Richard, Que Braye. She is the oldest sister to Earnest, Benard, Marvin, Aundra and Susan.
Iona made home in Woodbridge, VA and Brunswick, GA, where she was a business owner, in retail and the health care system. She was a dedicated community member, volunteering to provide food and clothing assistance to local neighborhoods. Additionally she would with her city commissioner to assist in neighborhood development projects.
Iona. was deeply loved by her extended family, She had a kind heart and generous heart. She played an instrumental role in lives the lives of helping young people begin their ventures into the world. She was generous to the less fortunate and would assist anyone in need.
Iona will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, generosity, and warm spirit will forever be remembered. May she rest in peace.
