ALTHOLTZ, Irene Friedman Age 94 1/2 , (she wouldn't let anyone forget the half), of Atlanta, formerly of Sunrise, Florida and Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully in her sleep November 28, 2016 surrounded by her family. Irene was born on April 30, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Sylvia and Jacob George Friedman. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Her family meant everything to her. Her life was devoted to them and her love of education. Her two favorite mottos, which she happily told to all and ones she would like to be remembered for were "Aspire to Inspire before you Expire" and "The glass is always half full". She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Irving Altholtz, her sister and brother-in-law, Selma and Phil Cohen, her brother, Joel M. Friedman, and her nephews Robert Cohen and Stephen Friedman. She is survived by her children, Linda (Stan) Bernknopf, Barbara (Gil) Spivack and Howard (Ginny) Altholtz; her brother, Irwin (Nedra) Friedman; sisters-in-law Shirley Friedman Chase and Nikki Friedman; her grandchildren, Brian (Misty) Bernknopf, Jason (Audrey Gil) Bernknopf, Jordan Spivack, Maddy Altholtz and Cally Altholtz; great-grandchildren Brady and Maren Bernknopf and Justina Gil; many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews, cousins and her extended family. Donations in her memory may be made to Congregation Etz Chaim, Marietta, GA, Congregation Children of Israel, Athens, Georgia, or the .
