Irene D. KwasnikIrene D. Kwasnik, age 81 of Bethany Beach, DE and formerly of Kinnelon, NJ, and Passaic, NJ passed away on May 6, 2017, after a long illness. She was born on September 20, 1935 in Saddle Brook, NJ, daughter of the late Martin and Frances (Pierog) Serafin.A life-long resident of NJ until retiring to Delaware in 2008, Irene held several positions in municipal government during her life and retired from the position of Tax Collector from the Borough of Kinnelon in 2000 after 22 years of service. Irene was actively engaged in both civic and professional organizations during her career and held a life-long passion for the arts as well as travel. Irene loved the beach and left her native NJ to live at the Delaware shore, where she remained active in community and cultural activities. Irene was a patron of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra while living in Delaware, where she channeled her love for classical and operatic music. Irene was a loving, generous, and vivacious woman and will be sorely missed by all those that had the privilege of knowing and loving her.In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thaddeus (Ted) Kwasnik; and by her brother, Martin Serafin. Irene is survived by: her daughters: Elizabeth Blair (Keith) of Shamong, NJ, and Hilary Cole (Jeff) of Wilmington, NC; her son, Thaddeus Kwasnik (Kathy) of Sparta, NJ; her grandchildren: Katherine Blair-Pozzuoli (Stephen), Stephanie Cole, and Alison Cole; and step-grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Sobotor. A memorial service is scheduled for June 24, 2017 at 11 AM and will be held at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church, 2 Miller Road; Kinnelon, NJ.Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963 or St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place; Memphis, TN 38105.
