PANKOSKI, IRENE (Margaret) 1925-2017 Irene (Margaret) Pankoski was born on her grandparents' farm in Fenwood, Saskatchewan. She joined the RCAF during World War II (1943-1945), going AWOL once when denied leave to meet her new baby brother. After the war, she trained and worked as a nurse where she charmed all with her sweetness, turned heads driving down the streets of Vancouver in her white Pontiac, and found fulfillment serving others, a commitment she continued after officially retiring in 1986 with over 30 years of volunteer work. She was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Most importantly she was always her own person and governed her life by her own values of beauty, justice, duty and compassion. On October 5, she passed away a week before her 92nd birthday and not two days after her last volunteer shift. It was as if she had finally tired herself out. We wish her the peaceful rest of those who have done a good life's work.
