Irene A. Poissant, 80Waite ParkAug. 23, 1936 - Aug. 11, 2017A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud for Irene A. Poissant, age 80, of Waite Park who passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. Reverend Matt Reeve will officiate. Burial will take place on Friday in St. Joseph's Parish Cemetery in Waite Park.Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.Irene was born on August 23, 1936 in St. Cloud to Christ and Martha (Dullinger) Stich. She attended Cathedral High School and Drews Business College. She married Irving H. Poissant on August 21, 1954 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waite Park. She worked at Stearns County Social Services, Catholic Charities, and Xcel Energy. Irene was also a wonderful homemaker and mother throughout her life. She was heavily involved in the Quilts of Valor program, quilting and donating many quilts for Vietnam Veterans.Irene enjoyed quilting, canning, gardening, bird watching, genealogy, history and traveling. She authored "Between Rails and Rocks" the History of Waite Park in 1993. She especially loved all the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Irene is survived by her children, Steve (Janet) Poissant of Brainerd, Keith (Linda) Poissant of Rice, Cheryll (Mark Drezek) PoiDrez of St. Cloud, Brenda (Mark Rian) Poissant-Rian of Royalton, Joy (Dave) Kahlhamer of St. Cloud, Paula (Tim Kortuem) Poissant of St. Cloud and Jim (Chandra) Poissant of Lakeville; "her 4th son", Joe Poissant of St. Augusta; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorraine Poissant of Waite Park, Delores Cordie of Mount Hood, OR, Gloria Belisle of Hudson, WI, and Ruth (Ray) Brown of Sartell.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2002; sisters and brother, Dorothy Stich, Roman Stich, and Viola Schlichting.Thank you to the staff of CentraCare Dialysis Center; St. Cloud Hospital; Therapy Suites; and Home Care & Hospice for the great care and kindness showed to Irene as she fought kidney disease. A special thank you to the wonderful staff and volunteers of Quiet Oaks Hospice House for the compassionate care not only given to our Mother, but for the therapeutic care you provided to her family as well.
