Isaac Chambers Jr., affectionately known as Ike or Puddin, was born on December 28, 1953, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Evelyn Tribble and Isaac Chambers. He accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and carried his faith with him throughout his life.
Isaac grew up with a loving family that included his brothers and sisters. He graduated from Farragut high school on the west side of Chicago, where he spent much of his childhood and early adulthood.
Isaac was proud to serve his country, completing active duty in the Army as part of his service across three branches of the military. Following his military service, he continued his dedication to community by becoming a Chicago firefighter. Isaac served his community with courage and commitment for over 20 years until his retirement.
Isaac married his longtime partner, Freddie Mae McGowan-Chambers, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a loving family and raised five children.
In his retirement, Isaac enjoyed life on the south side of Chicago, spending his days watching his favorite TV shows, indulging in sweet treats, and cherishing time with his loved ones. Known for his generosity and a heart as big as his deep baritone voice, Isaac had a unique ability to command respect and bring order with just a few words. While he spoke his mind, he was a quiet man at heart who deeply valued his family.
Isaac is lovingly remembered by his children: Altanise McGowan, Isaac Chambers III, Evelyn Chambers, and Jasmyne Chambers. He is preceded in death by his son, Grant McGowan Jr.
He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Altanise McGowan II, Demetrois Williams Jr., Elexis McAllum, Kai Mae Chambers, Eternity Jackson, Shante McGowan, Donya McGowan, Kevin McGowan, and Mary McGowan. He is preceded in death by his grandson, John McGowan.
