SellersburgSmith, J. Clarence "Clem" ,82, passed away during the early morning hours of Tuesday May 9, 2017 at his home in Sellersburg. He was born on November 3, 1934 to the late Samuel and Mary Louise Smith in Springfield, Kentucky. Mr. Smith retired from Farm Credit Bank where he worked as a Bank Examiner. He had a very successful career in finance, having worked for multiple financial institutions, including Wayne County Bank of Wayne County Tennessee and St. Louis Banks of St. Louis Missouri. Mr. Smith honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the St. Michaels Catholic Church located in Charlestown, Indiana. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and tracking the stock market, but his greatest passion was work. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Samuel, William and Benard Smith and his sister, Mary Josephine Mudd.Survivors include his loving wife Linda Smith of Sellersburg, his son, Indiana State Senator Jim C. Smith (Brenda) of Charlestown, his daughter, Kimberly Chesser (Kevin) of Crestwood, Kentucky, and his brother, John F. Smith of Lexington, Kentucky. Mr. Smith also leaves behind two grandchildren, Alixandria Chesser and Kevin Chesser, Jr., several nieces and nephews and his faithful companion Pebbles the miniature Poodle. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday May 12, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Charlestown with interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg.
