Jack Leland RansomJack Leland Ransom, 94, died at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette.Jack was born on November 15, 1922 in Talbot. He was the son of the late Charles Perry & Juliet Lillis (Whickcar) Ransom. He was valedictorian of his 1941 graduating class of Williamsport High School. He had lived in West Lebanon, Attica, Carbondale and South Bend before moving to Lafayette.Jack married Clydine Moore on March 9, 1974 in West Lafayette. She preceded him in death on January 30, 1996.Jack retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years of service. He had also worked as a cost accountant for ALCOA, a truck driver and restaurant & bar manager. He was an avid reader and loved to tell a joke.Jack served in the US Navy during World War II. He had taken the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2012. He had been a member of the American Legion Post #11 of Lafayette, Masonic Lodge #352 of West Lebanon, Scottish Rite - Valley of Indianapolis, Moose Lodge #1529 of Lafayette, and the Murat Shriners Temple of Indianapolis.Survivors include three children, J. Steven Ransom of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Sindie Hornbeck of Lafayette, Eva Susan Caldwell of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren, Romano (Stephanie), Emily (Ryan) Stump, Jacob Hornbeck, William Earl Byrd, III, Jennifer Jolly, Nicholas Caldwell & Patrick Caldwell; eight great-grandchildren including Fausto (Monique), Diago & Figo; and two great great-granddaughters, Sarah & Rosa; the mother of his sons, Sue Crawford of Williamsport; two nieces and a nephew. He was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Lee Ransom, and two brothers, Thomas & Richard.Visitation will be held at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Thursday, May 18, from 11:00 a.m. until the masonic memorial service at 1:00 p.m with the funeral service to follow, Chaplain David Hess officiating.
