Jack VaughnMurfreesboro - Jack Troy Vaughn Sr. age 83 of Murfreesboro, Tn. died on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017. Mr. Vaughn, surrounded by his children, died peacefully at home after a long and valiant struggle with his declining health.Mr. Vaughn was born on June 14th, 1934 in Overton County, Tn. to Walton and Lottie Vaughn. Jack lived all but his first few weeks on this earth in Rutherford County where he grew up working on his Daddy's farm and around his Mother's store at Compton. As a young man he married Rita Jean Powers on July 8th ,1955 and they raised 5 children.Jack made a living as an electrician and a builder. His passions were his family and sports. As a young man he made a name for himself as a pitcher in the old Brush League Baseball circuit around Middle Tennessee. When his playing days were over he turned to coaching girls and women's softball. Mr. Vaughn and a few others were instrumental in starting the first girl's softball league in Murfreesboro under the auspices of the Kiwanis of Murfreesboro. He then helped to expand the women's softball league in Rutherford County where he coached a highly successful team for many years. The Vaughn's Electric teams played throughout the south and were nationally recognized. His teams always included many of the best female athletes from Rutherford County. Mr. Vaughn was recognized by Governor Lamar Alexander for his devotion to women's athletics at a time when opportunities for girls and women to participate in sports outside of school were very limited.Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Enloe, Holland, Charles(Bud)and Ray. Sisters Lenora, Oleda, and Reba. Grandaughter Shalyn Brooks, and Great Grandson Elija Williams. After 58 years of marriage, Mr. Vaughn lost his wife Jean.At Mr. Vaughn's request he was laid to rest at a private graveside service on Saturday, October 21st , 2017.Mr. Vaughn is survived by his sister Genavie Arnold; His children Troy(Brenda), Vivian(Roger Schmelzer),Vanessa(Steve Brooks),Valerie(Lynn Williams),andKen(Sonya). In addition, Mr. Vaughn leaves 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren as part of his legacy.Mr. Vaughn had requested that in lieu of flowers any memorials be made to Alive Hospice of Rutherford County or the .The Family wishes to recognize and thank Dr. David Ours and staff and especially Alive Hospice of Rutherford County and their staff. Without their help Daddy would never have been able to stay in his home for his final days. They were a godsend and we will be forever grateful for their help and friendship. Thank You Johnie, Jessica, Kelly and especially Jennifer.As Mr. Vaughn wished, his family celebrated him privately this past Saturday at Roselawn Mausoleum.
