HAMLET, N.C. — Jackie Craven Burris, 62, of Hamlet, North Carolina, died on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at his home. Death was unexpected.
Jackie was born on Feb. 6, 1952 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, the son of the late Craven "Jack" Burris and the late Martha Marie Henderson Burris. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brother and sister, Bonnie Burris and Johnny Burris.
Jack worked as a engine assembler for Penske Engines, PowerTech Engines and Automotive Specialties. He was past District 6 president of N.C. Moose Association and former secretary for District 6.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Miller Burris; two daughters, Michelle Gandy and Brandi Drye (Kenneth); a stepson, Alex Mabe; and grandchildren; Kyle Gandy, Mikayla Gandy, Luke and Sara Gandy, Taylor Drye and Kenley and Kolby Drye. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Frankie Burris, Donnie Burris, Billy Henderson and Diane Hager. Jackie is also survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Lucille Gainey Burris.
The service for Mr. Burris will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. George W. McCullough. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. before the service at Whitley's Funeral Home.
