Jacqueline "Jackie" (Sharra) Gilman, age 93, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Albert B. Gilman, passed away on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2016. She was born on June 23, 1923 in New Milford, daughter of the late John O. and Anna B. Sharra. After graduating from Bethel High School, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving her country for three years during World War II. While in the Navy, she met her future husband to whom she was married for 55 years until his passing in 1999. Jackie was active, along with her husband, in many patriotic organizations and endeavors. She was a life member of the Abigail Wolcott Ellsworth Chapter, NSDAR, and Past Regent, life member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, life member of the Windsor Historical Society, life member of the Sheldon Family Association, member of the WAVES National Unit 42, member of the Connecticut Historical Society, Connecticut Society of Genealogists, past officer in the Charter Oak Chapter, member of the National Society Colonial Dames XVIIC, WAVES Representative at VA Continuing Care in Newington, life member of the Military Order of the
Purple Heart Auxiliary, member of the First Church in Windsor, Congregational for more than 50 years. She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Robert Gilman and his wife Bonnie of Pawleys Island, SC, John Arthur Gilman of Knoxville, TN, Albert Bacon Gilman, Jr. and his wife Mary of West Haven, and Carol G. Eagan and her husband William Eagan of Plantsville; nine grandchildren, Stephan Gilman, Jennifer Guerri, Julie Michael, Michael Gilman, Matthew Gilman, Kelly Gilman, Ryan Gilman, Dorren Gilman Kravitz, and Haley Eagan; nine great grandchildren, Caleb and Noah Michael, Madelyn and Olivia Guerri, Chase Gilman, Jack and Katherine Kravitz, and Owen and Josephine Gilman; and numerous cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her five sisters and a brother, Rhodaette Fairchild, Georgiabelle Parsons, Phoebe Sprindis, Beverly McGuire, Barbara Steinhauer, and George Sharra. Her family will receive friends on Monday, November 14, 4-7 p.m., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 11 a.m., at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Palisado Cemetery, Windsor.
