Jacqueline (Jackie) Fisher Runyan, 87, passed away in Kingwood, Texas on March 22 following an illness. She was born on January 31, 1927 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to John P. and Madge Fisher.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William M. Runyan II, of Kingwood, her five children: sons Michael Runyan of Montgomery, and John Runyan (Ruth) of Alexandria, VA,, daughters Lucinda Anderson (David) of Kingwood, Janet Runyan of Boulder, Colo., Amy Asofsky (Douglas) of Houston, five grandchildren; Jackie Anderson Owens (Ford), Brian Anderson, Caitlin Runyan, Margaret Runyan, and Hannah Asofsky, and one great grandchild, Charlotte Owens.
Raised on a farm in Saverton, Missouri, Jackie attended Park College in Missouri and The University of Illinois before graduating from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Kansas City in 1947.
She was head nurse at Sharpstown Hospital in Houston, and retired as Director of Nursing from Park Plaza Hospital in Houston in 1978.
An avid seamstress and quilter, she was active for many years in the Kingwood Area Quilt Guild where she received the Trailblazer Award for Outstanding Achievement. She was especially active in creating beautiful quilts for children through many years of service to the Ronald McDonald Foundation.
Jackie was a longtime member of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and in 2002 received the organization's prestigious Golden Girl Award for 50 years of service promoting educational opportunities for women.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 5 at Kingwood Funeral Home, followed by a reception.
