James Head, beloved resident of Portsmouth, Virginia, United States, has shuffled off this mortal coil at the age of 73. Born on January 1, 1950, he brought contagious joy and laughter to all who knew him. His departure on September 6, 2023, may have left a void in our lives, but his memory will forever bring smiles to our faces.
James was the epitome of light-heartedness. He had an uncanny ability to turn any frown upside down with his quick wit and infectious laughter. In fact, he once managed to make a grumpy traffic cop crack a smile by telling a corny joke during a routine traffic stop.
His mischievous nature extended beyond his jokes. James was known to start impromptu water balloon fights during neighborhood gatherings, much to the delight of all involved (except perhaps the few who were caught off-guard). His creativity had no bounds, and he often surprised his loved ones with whimsical gifts and hilarious practical jokes.
However, James' playful nature was not limited to jesting alone. He had a passion for music and would often entertain his friends and family with impromptu jam sessions on his trusty guitar. His rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama" was a crowd favorite, and he never failed to get toes tapping and hands clapping.
Those closest to him will fondly remember James' love for the great outdoors. He enjoyed exploring nature, taking long hikes along the coast, and camping under the stars. His family often chuckled as he regaled them with tales of epic battles with mosquito armies and legendary fish that always seemed to escape his grasp.
James' legacy of laughter and love will forever be etched in our hearts. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha, his two children, Emily and Benjamin, and his three grandchildren, Sophie, Noah, and Olivia.
In the memory of James, let us all strive to find joy and humor in the simplest of life's moments. As he once said, "Life is short, but laughter can make it feel infinite."
Please join us in celebrating the life of our dear James at the memorial service, which will be held at St. Mary's Church in Portsmouth on September 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM.
Rest in peace, dear friend. Keep the angels laughing in heaven, as you did on Earth.
