James A. Garner, age 84, of Malvern, died Thursday, July 27, 2017 in Hot Springs. He was born on March 7, 1933 in Kingsland, Arkansas to the late Albert Lee Garner and Willie Mae Ashlock Garner. Reared and educated in Kingsland, he was the widower of the late Nedra Childers Garner to whom he was married on August 31, 1952 in Cullendale, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2016. Mr. Garner had worked for National Rejectors as maintenance superintendent for 20 years, and had his own landscaping business for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served in the Arkansas National Guard, and was a member of Anchor Baptist Church in Brown Springs. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Davies of Bryant; a grandson, Jeffrey Davies and his wife April of Conway; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Curtis and Norris Garner of Kingsland. Mr. Garner was also preceded in death by a son, James David Garner; a grandson, Tommy Davies; his son-in-law, Billy Davies; and by three sisters, Delawis Noyola, Lavois Ann Veasey, and Carolyn McKinney. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 in the Kennedy Cemetery in Cleveland County with Brother Caleb Lewis officiating and under the direction of J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
