Fergus Jr., James Albert "Jim"James Albert "Jim" Fergus Jr. of Ithaca passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the age of 86. Jim was born on April 8, 1931, a son of the late James and Grace (Chaffee) Fergus Sr. After graduating from Trumansburg High School, he enlisted in the
United States Marine Corps actively serving during the
Korean Conflict through 1952. Jim remained in the Marine Corps Reserves until 1959 when he was honorably discharged. He worked as the produce manager for 35 years at P&C in Ithaca prior to his retirement and also painted signs, police cars, and boats throughout the Trumansburg and Ithaca areas. Jim was a member of the
VFW Post 961 in Ithaca, past commander of the American Legion in Trumansburg and American Legion in Dryden, Tompkins County American Legion Past Commander, Misfits Color Guard, and the Eagles Club in Ithaca. He was a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and sang in a barbershop quartet, The Misfits, for many years. Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine Fergus; four children, James (Vickie) Fergus III, Randy (Grace) Fergus, Karen Rounds, and Kristen (Kevin) Romer; two step children, Kathleen (Bruce) Terry and Laura Black; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Jamie, Daniel (Courtney), Karissa, Zachary, Megan, Hannah, Allison, and Tyler; several step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and a stepson. In keeping with Jim's wishes, services will be private for family.
