James "Jim" Allen SchellLafayette - James "Jim" Allen Schell, 80, of Lafayette, LA passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel with Reverend David Rousse officiating.Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until time of service. All arrangements are being handled by Martin & Castille Funeral Home, and the family wishes to thank Mr. Jimmy Bordelon for all of his time and effort. Jim was born on April 1, 1937 in Effingham, Illinois. Throughout his childhood, he attended schools in Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, and Arkansas. In 1955, he graduated from high school in Magnolia, Arkansas, and from there, went on to attend the
University of Texas in Austin. Jim graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. He eventually moved to Lafayette and worked as a petroleum engineer for Chevron, and Quintana Petroleum Corporation for 33 years prior to retirement. He was a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and Society of Mechanical Engineers. Jim was an avid sportsman with a love for fishing, hunting, and traveling. He was a dedicated Longhorn fan, always cheering on his alma mater. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He always put others ahead of himself and was always there when help was needed. He was a caring father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his son, Karl Scott Schell; his daughter, Sherry Schell Whitfield and her husband, Chuck; his two grandchildren, Evelyn and Emma Whitfield, and his two step-grandchildren, Lauren and Charles Whitfield; his brother, John Schell; his sister-in-law, Ruby Schell; numerous nieces and nephews, and the rest of his relatives and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anne Sherry Schell; his brother Bill Schell, and his sister-in-law, Flora Schell. The family of Jim would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice, specifically Jamie Monlezun and Lisa Stephens, for their attentiveness, compassion, and loving care. They will always be known as Jim's angels here on Earth. Special thanks to Lacey Savoy, another angel who took excellent care of Jim in his final weeks.
