James Barker Obituary
Sep 09, 1956 - Apr 24, 1996
This obituary is administered by:
James BarkerSept. 9, 1956 - May 4, 2016James "Big Jim, Jimbo, Jim" Arthur Barker, 59, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 of multiple myeloma/leukemia at the family residents surrounded by loved ones.Jim was born on September 9, 1956 to Clayton and Norma Barker in Ontario OR. In 1974, he graduated as a Grizzly from Fruitland High School. Jim was proud to be an American and served his country by joining the Navy. Jim married his first wife, Deborah Stone on July 21, 1980 and had two children Stephanie Barker and Mike Barker. Deborah passed away from leukemia on April 24, 1996.On June 6, 2010, Jim married his beautiful wife, Christy Rochester under his favorite willow tree. Many residents remember Jim from his many years of service at Ontario Bearing & Hydraulics. Jim was initiated as an Elk at the Ontario Lodge and enjoyed his time with the organization. As many know, Jim was very much into sports and loved his Chicago Bears, Boise State Broncos, and of course watching Jimmy Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. on NASCAR Sundays. Some of his favorite hobbies include an adventurist game of D&D (Dungeons & Dragons), a challenging night of pool with his long time pool partners, supporting his son in the Homedale Demolition Derby on the 4th of July, as well as other local community events.Food was a passion of Jim's, and his way of showing it was through his barbequing. Many friends and family have gathered in the perfectly landscaped yard next to a roaring fire pit to join in laughs and stories while enjoying a plate of Jim's masterpiece. Working in the yard, or "heaven" as Jim called it, was a favorite pass time, along with the endless projects, (or as Jim would call it honey dues for the home).Jim was an amazing husband, father and grandfather, and friend. He loved kids and they loved him. Miss Christy's daycare was just as much part of Jim's life as it is Christy's. Every day he would venture downstairs and with his intimidating, rock star voice, say, "What are you honyockers doing?" Of course the kids were never intimidated and would run to Big Jim with open arms and giggles.Jim is survived by his lovely wife, Christy Barker; parent in-laws Ray (Kathy) Farmer; siblings Cherie (David) Derrick, Bruce (Maggie) Barker, and Ross (Donna) Barker; sibling in-laws Tina Schmitzer, Terry Schmitzer, Chris (Jennifer) Farmer and Jason (Heather) Nicol; children Mike (Dannie) Miller, Stephanie Barker, Crystal Rochester, Mike (Kim) Barker, and Roger (Mykel) Rochester; grandchildren Eric, Alan, Shay, Mason, Roain, Ryslii, Talix, Lyric and soon to be welcomed Luke; nephew Shawn (Deanna) Bergseng and many nephews, nieces, cousins, family, friends and his special honyockers. He is preceded in death by his first wife Deborah Stone (Barker), his brother in-law Dave Stone, his sister in-law Barb Stone (Christley) and his parents Norma and Clayton Barker.Memorial Services will be held at the Ontario Elks Lodge, 20 SW 3rd Street Ontario Or on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. Following the service will be a potluck held at 2 p.m. at Jim and Christy's home, 5955 HWY 95, Fruitland. Please join the family with stories and one more toast to the big guy. If attending, please bring a favorite side dish, beverages and chairs. Big Jim's wishes were that all ages are welcome to celebrate his life.As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family has set up an account under Christy Barker for Jim Barkers memorial fund at Columbia Bank in Ontario OR to help with medical expenses and unfinished projects. Please make the checks payable to Christy Barker.
