Braun, James (Jim)James (Jim) BraunThe Glass MasterJim Braun died peacefully at his home on June 20, 2017 after an extended illness. He was surrounded by friends and family when he passed.Jim, the eldest of 3 sons, was born on March 6, 1953 to John and Arlene (Manochezski) Braun. He grew up in West Allis, WI and graduated from West Allis Central High School in 1971. He excelled in sports. He loved football and baseball. He was especially successful in boxing and was a golden glove boxer!Known as The Glass Master and owner of Door County Glass, Jim learned his lifelong vocation from his grandfather who blew the glass for the West Allis street lights. Jim and his brothers worked with their grandfather regularly from a very early age. After high school he started creating swan shaped barometers and selling them at fairs and flea markets. Through diligence and determination, Jim became a successful glass artist. He practiced blowing glass nightly for hours at a time in the early days of his career. He had a store in Door County for many years as well as booths in malls in Milwaukee and in Sheboygan. In recent years he focused much of his artistry on creating one-of-a-kind pieces for people who wanted specialized keepsakes such as glass pieces representing hobbies, famous landmarks, favorite flowers and even pets. There were no requests that he couldn't take and it made him happy knowing that his pieces were a source of joy for others.Jim often attributed his successes in sports and in his glass artistry to his personal motto of never giving up. And this motto permeated his relationships with friends and family as well. He was fiercely loyal, supportive and generous to his loved ones.Jim is survived by his 2 brothers David and Thomas Braun; 4 children Douglas, John, Scout and Delilah Braun; 2 grandchildren Jasmine and Alexa Braun and extended family members June Deihs, Mason Schuck, Georgia Pucel and Tony Lozano as well as many friends throughout Eastern Wisconsin. Jim will be missed by many!A private celebration of life service will be held. Special thanks to the staff at Matthews Cancer Clinic and St Nicholas Hospice for your unwavering support throughout Jim's treatment. Your kindness and generosity were immensely appreciated during his journey through cancer!
