Mr. James Hayes "Jimmy" Carlton of West Jefferson died on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was 48.

Mr. Carlton was born on March 26, 1967 in Ashe County to Burl Hayes and Betty Walters Carlton. Mr. Carlton was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his children, cooking, target shooting, building computers and working with electronics.

Mr. Carlton is survived by two sons, Jarod Carlton and Jacob Carlton of the home; daughter, Jordan Carlton of the home; his parents, Burl and Betty Carlton of Jefferson; sister, Pam Blackburn and husband, Joey of Denver; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by the Rev. David Blackburn, the Rev. Doug Halsey and the Rev. Cory Halsey. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.

The family respectfully requests no food please. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carlton Scholarship Fund for his children, c/o Fifth Third Bank, 402 South Jefferson Avenue, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
