James Christopher Clingan, 19, of Greenville S.C., formerly of Oscoda, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 in the mountains near Missoula, Mont.James was born on May 16, 1995 in Tawas to Christopher Clingan and Karen Jennifer Fandel. His hobbies included most sports, as he participated in football, wrestling and baseball throughout his entire school experience. He graduated from Eastside High in Taylors, S.C. in the spring of 2014. Upon graduation, he had planned on joining the military after seeing some of the beauty of the country that he was going to defend.James was an avid reader. He was a fan of series novels and would sometimes read two or three books a week. James was a member of the new Spring Church in Greenville, S.C. and dedicated much of his time to working with the younger children and helping out with Fuse, a children's church group. He was also a prankster and, as he got older, he became an amateur stand-up comic.Less than a week after graduation, James decided to spend the summer in Montana. He loved it there and took to fly fishing, hiking and camping. He loved the outdoors, animals, music, his family, friends and life.James had a gigantic heart. All were welcome. He would clean out a spot, bring a blanket and offer his last piece of bread. There was a special spot reserved for two special people, his younger sister Payton Binkley and his younger brother Gage Binkley. They were the light of his eye. He loved to spend time with them and, if they were apart, would constantly text and Snap chat. He was a very outgoing person and could make friends with anybody almost immediately. All will surely miss him as he had such a profound effect on so many people in such a short period of time.James is survived by his parents, Christopher Clingan and Karen (nee Fandel) Binkley, siblings Payton and Gage Binkley, grandparents Marvin and Evelyn (nee Butterson) Clark and Robert and Mary Fandel; aunts and uncles Thomas and Christine Clingan, Christopher Clark, Robert and Stephanie (nee Clark) Johnston, Jerry and Renee Culp and Christine Heartwell.James was predeceased by his loving great grandparents Robert and Ethel Butterson.A memorial service for James will be held at the Oscoda American Legion at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.
