James Craig Chavers was born on January 7, 1962, to Thelma Lawrence and is preceded in death by his father, Millard, and brothers, Kirk and Earl.
Craig grew up and was educated in the Newark school system. After graduating, he attended Mercer County College. Craig explored many different tracks of study and career opportunities. He then met the love of his life, Denise Chavers, on April 12, 1989. She loved him dearly and that was her “BAE,” and they married on September 11, 1999.
Craig enrolled in Lehigh Carbon Community College, where he received his CDL to drive tractor-trailer trucks; he loved driving. He also received his certification as a Diesel Truck Mechanic. He was excited to be in the process of starting his own business. Craig lived life to the fullest and wasn’t afraid to speak out for what he believed and always helped others.
Craig's greatest treasures were his children, whom he loved. He is survived by Khalif Franklin, Basheem Williams, Shakirah Williamson, Jamese Chavers, and Yakima Chavers, as well as his brothers, Aaron Lawrence and John Lucas, whom he loved dearly.
He is also a loving Pop Pop to his grandchildren: Jhace, August (AJ), Nasheem, Jahzier, Giziaha, Malikye, Messiah, Elijah, Egypt, Shaquan, Kaiden, London, Shyloh, Khalif Jr., Ky’Andre, and Kylie, along with one great-granddaughter, Honesty.
He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
