James J. De Vaney passed away on January 22, 2017 in EI Paso, Texas. He was born on January 24, 1927 in Wellington, Kansas to Harold E. and Gula Sarah De Vaney. At the age of 14 his family moved to Waynoka, Oklahoma. He joined the Navy and was sent to submarine school then stationed in the Philippines until World War II ended. On returning home he attended Northwestern College in Alva, Oklahoma for 3 years. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for a few years meeting his wife, Catherine Genon during this time. After a short courtship they were married for 65 years. They made their first home in Oklahoma City, where he was employed by The Monroe Company for 37 years. They spent their time living in New Mexico and Texas coming to EI Paso in 1973. He is survived by his wife Genon, two children Dennis: Jay De Vaney and wife June of Cowpens, South Carolina and Catherine Diane and husband Jerry Ketelboeter of EI Paso, three grandsons: Joseph and wife Janeen of Cowpens, South Carolina, Micah and wife Adrian of New Albany, Indiana, Samuel and wife Linzie of Las Vegas, Nevada, 6 Great grandchildren: Jewel, Jackson, Jonas of South Carolina, Annelise and Madelyn of Indiana, and Allie of Nevada. James worked at his church where ever he lived. He was an avid Boy Scout and leader and member of AARP and Art Association. He was a loving husband and family man. Memorial Service will be at 11:00am on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at New Hope Lutheran Church, 4801 Sun Valley Drive. Interment will follow at a later date at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Please visit online registry
