YORK James L. Edmonds, Jr. transitioned to his new home on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Bernice (Logan) Edmonds. James was born on December 29, 1932, in Rocky Mt., N.C., to the late Laura (Westry) and James L. Edmonds, Sr. Jimmy, as he was fondly called by his family and friends, moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in the mid 1940's. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Class of 1950. After graduating Jimmy moved to Washington, D.C., where he became employed with a privately owned upholstery company for 25 years. Jimmy moved to York in 1972 where he gained employment with Heagy Upholstery Co. for 16 years, as well as with BMY, now known as BAE, from which he retired in 1996 after 16 years of service. In 1976 Jimmy was united in marriage to Bernice (Logan) Real. He graciously inherited her three children, Janice, Leland, and Katrina. Together, they were parents to eight children. Jimmy was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the Rev. Richard J. Manning. He faithfully served as a Trustee and member of the Manning Chorus. Jimmy joined Cornerstone Baptist Church September 7, 2014. Jimmy was also a brother of the Prince Hall Masons Social Friendship Lodge #42. He enjoyed watching football and boxing and two of his favorite pastimes were motorcycle riding and bowling. In addition to his hobbies, Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories and mourn his loss his wife of 39 years, Bernice; five daughters, Lisa Humphrey of York, Marjorie Lloyd (Derek) and Jewel R. Sharp (Sean), both of Delaware, Allyson Braxton of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Janice Moye of Washington, D.C.; a stepdaughter, Janice D. Real (companion, Larry Kearse), and a stepson, Leland Real (Sherry), both of York; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other family members and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James L. Edmonds, III; a stepdaughter, Katrina Real; and four siblings, Lee Bernard Edmonds, Carolyn Johnson, Marjorie Dunnigan, and Vivian Horton. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 6, 2015, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 629 S. Pershing Ave., York 17401 and a Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark K. Kearse officiating. Burial will take place in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Boulding Mortuary, Inc., York, is handling arrangements.
