James "Jim" Edward BennettRedding, CAApril 11, 1935 - May 10, 2017James Edward Bennett was born on April 11, 1935, to Glen Ballenger and Helen Perkins-Ballenger, in Los Angeles, California. At an early age Jim was adopted by his step father, Edward Leslie Bennett. Jim was thrilled to have a dad that was with him every day.In 1943 the family moved from Burbank, California to Los Molinos, California. His parents purchased a farm along the Sacramento River where they lived near other family members. Jim loved living on the farm where he got his first dog, a shotgun, and a 22 rifle. Life didn't get much better than this. Jim attended Lassen View Elementary School and graduated in 1953 from Red Bluff High School where he lettered in football and track. Jim attended Shasta College and Chico State where he studied engineering.Jim's family attended the First Baptist Church in Red Bluff where he met Geraldine Marie Johnson. They were married on June 13, 1959. Jim and Geri had two children: Mark, born, May 4, 1962, and Teresa, born, May 21, 1963. Jim and his family later attended Community Baptist Church in Red Bluff.In 1970 Jim and the family moved to Redding, CA where Jim was promoted to District Electric Engineer for PG&E. Jim continued to work for PG&E until he retired 1993.Upon moving to Redding, Jim and his family attended Grace Baptist Church and later North Valley Baptist Church/CrossPointe Community Church. Both Jim and Geri were active in the music department for many years where they enjoyed singing in the choir, and Jim sang in a men's quartet.Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Geri. Jim is survived by son, Mark Bennett & wife, Janet, of Fair Oaks, CA; daughter, Teresa Davidson & husband, Doug, of Crescent City, CA; Grandchildren, Sara Davidson, Steven Davidson & wife, Marissa, Christopher Davidson & wife, Lexie, Tayler Bennett, Reece Bennett, Dawson Bennett and Ashton Bennett and six great grandchildren, Landen, Daniel, Remi, Presleigh, Blake and Kayden.A memorial service will be held at CrossPointe Community Church, 2960 Hartnell Ave, Redding, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 11:00 am.
