James Edward Byone, also known as “Bubby” back home, was born in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana on February 28, 1945. There he enjoyed his early years in life in the country, learning to fish and hunt, and helping his father on their farm. In 1962 James parents, Ella Louise Byone and Edward Byone wanted a better life for their children so they moved their family to Los Angeles, California, where they settled in the Florence/Firestone District, later moving the family to the City of South Gate.
