Rev. JAMES EDWARD LEAPHART, born on January 30, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Frances Bates and the late Roger Bates, passed away at age 73 on January 11, 2018, in Dover, Delaware. James was the beloved husband of the late Sheila Doreen Leaphart. He is survived by his daughters, Mindy Leaphart, Monique Leaphart, Melissa Leaphart-West, Monica Wiggins, Morgan Leaphart, and Mallory Sample, as well as his grandchildren Desirae Leaphart, Mojave Hobbs, Michael Williams, Markees Leaphart, Sierra Hobbs, Marvin Hobbs, Promise Wiggins, Dynasia Sample, LaShawn Perez-Leaphart, Lamar Perez-Leaphart, Demya Sample, Lathan Perez-Leaphart, Milani Sample and son-in-laws Vann Wiggins, Karl West and Derek Sample. James was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Leaphart, and sister, Rosalyn Bates. He is survived by his brother Frank Leaphart and sisters, Anna Rister, Julia Anderson, Mary Bates, and Gerri Griffin.

     It is with deep sadness that we are writing this memorial. Our beloved Father, Reverend James Edward Leaphart, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Our Dad dedicated his life to the ministry of Jesus Christ and he focused on spreading the word of God so that others would gain salvation. He was a compassionate Christian man who befriended everyone he met. James was a dedicated provider for his wife Sheila and daughters, he always made time to talk to his children and grandchildren. In special memory of him, we are dedicating this memorial for the joy and abundance of love and nurturing he selflessly gave to each of us. Dad, you will never be forgotten. Your memory will remain in each of our lives daily. We were blessed to be a part of your life and we treasure the many lessons you enlightened us with. Continue to rest in peace Dad and know how much you are forever loved and missed.
