James (Jim) Edward York, age 68, passed away on November 11, 2016, after a year's battle with cancer. Jim was born on October 14, 1948 to parents Josephine and Joseph York at the Port Arthur General Hospital. He is survived by sisters June Blanchard (Tom) and Joanne Wade (Bruce), niece Tammy Blanchard, nephews Jessie (Erin) Wade, Tyler (Jenna) Wade, great nephews Hayden and Rylen and great niece Deegan. Also left to mourn are good friends Rod Stevens, Jamie Turcotte, David Lindberg and Terry Tennant. Jim attended Shuniah Public School and later graduated from Hammarskjold High School. When he entered the workforce he chose mainly working in the automotive industry. His employers included Safety Supply, Hillport Motors, Arnie's Auto Sales, Comuzzi Jeep Eagle and Lakehead Motors. There was no doubt that Jim loved his automobiles, particularly the vintage ones. He was not partial to the make, colour, size or year, he loved them all. He looked forward to attending the various car shows in Canada and the USA whenever he had a chance. Jim had a good sense of humour but also a strong opinion on certain issues. This was evident to his family and close friends and the many readers who saw his letters to the editor of the local newspapers. Jim was very fond of animals and enjoyed the companionship of his cats throughout the years. He also generously supported the charities of his choice whenever he could. At this time, Jim's family and friends wish to thank the staff at the Regional Hospital and the St. Joseph's Hospice Paliative Team on 4 North for all the care you provided him in his final days. As per Jim's wishes, there will be no funeral service and internment of his ashes will be completed at a future date. To all of you who knew Jim and appreciated his humour, please take a moment out of your day to remember the Jim we all knew and loved.
