James Eugene Hite, aka Gene, died peacefully in Newark, NJ on 01/2015 at the age of 84.
Gene is survived by his wife, Eleanor; 5 Children and 11 grandchildren. Gene graduated from Widener University with a B.A. degree in Business. He married Eleanor, his high school sweetheart and was married for 60 wonderful years. They moved to Swedesboro, NJ and began a lie together. Gene enlisted in the US Army at 17 and retired after 25 years. He was a part of the Vietnam War and the Koran War, then got an honorable discharge in 1969 He worked at the local post office for 11 years after he retired. Over the years, the couple welcomed 5 children into their home and Gene set about teaching them skills and manners. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He would often say” You can do what you want, but if you were smart …”
Gene enjoyed traveling, Nascar, country music and collecting DVDs. His sports teams were the Phillies and Eagles. James was loved and will truly be missed by us all.
A funeral is scheduled for 01/2015 at the Arlington Cemetery with a reception to follow at his home. Tim Jones will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate James’s life.
