He was born on July 8, 1934, in Cambridge, a son of the late Roy ad Ella Cramblett Hicks. He worked at Owens Brockway Glass and a member of the Eagles Lodge #302 and American Legion Post #29.He is survived by his wife Eleanor Barnett Hicks of 30 years; three sons; Donald Hicks, James (P.J.) Hicks and Terry Hicks; a daughter; Deborah (Marvin) Jenkins; four step children; Joyce Melsness, Ricky Watts, Ernest "Bo" Watts and Michael L. Watts; ten grandchildren; Stephanie Smith, Heather Shroyer, Donald (Giovanna) Hicks Jr., David (Cheri) Mallett, Amanda (Peeps) Simon, Thomas (Wendy) Hicks, Darick Hicks, Charlie ( Stephanie) Smith, Kenneth ( Amanda) Smith, Billy (Christine) Peyton; thirty great grandchildren; Laken Curtis, Landen Shroyer, Lauren Shroyer, Nathan Hicks, Alexander Hicks, Darren Wells, Zachary Barnett, Taylor Mallett, Jacob Mallett, Gabrielle Simon, Alexandria Simon, Preston Simon, Slade Hicks, Madison Hicks, Carter Hicks, Brady Smith, Brody Smith, Tyler Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Allison Peyton, Michael Peyton, Cody Peyton, Troy Peyton, Maddie Peyton, Stephen Smith, Josiee Devlin, Jakala Devlin, Deandre Mayle, Shawn Ferguson and Infinity Ferguson and ten step grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James R. Hicks Jr.; a daughter Mary Hicks; two brothers; Johnnie and Carl Hicks; three sisters Mary, Marge and Rosella and a special aunt, Jessie Gill.
