James Jimmy Arthur Agner Jr., 82, of Salisbury, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Velma (Trexler) Agner to whom he was married 63 years. Jimmy was born on Jan. 4, 1934 to the late James and Ora (Eller) Agner in Rowan County. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served numerous tours, aboard various aircraft carriers, working as a jet mechanic. He retired from the Navy after 23 years of service. Jimmy continued work as a mechanic as a civilian and also worked as a gunsmith. He was a lifetime member of Providence United Methodist in Salisbury. Jimmy was a gun enthusiast and enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Velma Agner; daughter, Karen Lynn (Randy) Cauble; son, Rodney James (Linda) Agner; four grandchildren, Katina (Mezak) Tucker, Michele Yago, Sara (Kyle) Maloney and Daniel (Ashley) Agner; two great-grandchildren, Bree Tucker and Emma Maloney; one sister, Peggy Troutman; and one nephew, Douglas Troutman. Visitation & Service: A visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church in Salisbury. A service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Aldana Allen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan Hospice and Pallative Care, 720 Grove Street, Salisbury, NC 28144.
