James "Jim" Kenneth Currens, Jr.77, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2017 at Methodist Hospital. He was born on June 11, 1939 in Indianapolis to James Currens, Sr. and Dora Louise Currens who have preceded him in death. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1957 and went on to study at the University of Cincinnati. For over 37 years, he worked as an architect for Everett I. Brown Company.Throughout his lifetime, Jim enjoyed traveling, particularly out west where he fell in love with the mountains. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005 and spent the remainder of his life bravely battling the disease. Those who knew him never once heard him complain, even though the tremors in his arms and legs gradually worsened and he was no longer able to travel out west or walk unassisted. He was truly a remarkable man and will be forever remembered by those who love him for his quiet determination and gentle spirit.Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Ann; two children, Julie (Mark) Salmon and Justin (Tiffany) Currens; younger brother John David (Mikki) Currens; and eight grandchildren, including Andrew Salmon, Rachel Salmon, Emily Salmon, Kyle Salmon, Nicholas Salmon, Nevona Currens, Autumn Currens, and Sebastion Currens. The calling will be held at 10 a.m. and the funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at St. Susanna Catholic Church. A luncheon will follow the funeral service. Contributions can be made to St. Susanna's building fund. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Online condolences may be sent to
