James Lowell Odom was born on December 7, 1939 in humble beginnings. His parents, Oliver and Mattie Lou, worked the land in rural Alabama and Jim grew up on a dirt road, with no running water, hunting, fishing and farming. He graduated from Dozier High School in a class of 20 people, joined the Marine Corps and went to Troy State University on the GI Bill. He started at Shell Oil once he graduated and remained there until his retirement. He accomplished many things while at Shell and was a dedicated provider for his family. He never boasted of his achievements. This large, humble man died peacefully in Humble, Texas on June 13, 2013.

Jim loved politics and sports. He coached football and baseball when his sons were young and was a die-hard Alabama fan. Roll Tide! He loved having people around, and even if he was asleep on the couch, no amount of noise or commotion concerned him. He enjoyed music and was always ready to teach and supervise a car repair.

Jim was predeceased by his wife Jo, a mere 8 weeks ago, his son Rodney, his brothers, Ollie Ray, Lee Wayne and Johnny Don. He leaves to mourn his passing his son Rusty, daughter Beth, sister Linda Ann, daughters-in-law Boo and Melinda, grandchildren Trevor, Madeline, Kirby and Ella Lynn, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013, 5-8 PM at Rosewood Funeral Home in Humble, TX. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013, 2 PM in the Chapel of Rosewood Funeral Home, Humble, TX. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
