It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Lewis Wright, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend. John peacefully passed away on November 13, 2024, surrounded by his family, at the age of 43.
Born on June 7, 1971, in Indianapolis , Indiana , James grew up with a passion for the outdoors and a deep love for his community. After graduating from high school, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy.
After his service, James returned to Indianapolis and began a long career in engineering, working for more than 20 years with Burns & McDonnell Known for his meticulous work ethic, he played a key role in several landmark construction projects in the region. His colleagues often referred to him as “the man who could build anything.”
Outside of work, James was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, fishing, and camping with his family. He spent countless weekends in the Rockies, passing on his love for nature to his children and grandchildren. He also volunteered regularly at his local church, where he served as a deacon and mentor to many younger members of the congregation.
James is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Mary Wright ; his two children, David Wright (Lisa) and Sarah Wright ; his three nieces, Tedra, Tanyia, Tiera; his two nephews, Lamar, Demaris ; his four grandchildren, Jasmine, Diamond, Michael, and Jamie; and his brother, Edward Wright. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jennifer Wright.
James’s family invites you to celebrate his life at a memorial service on Saturday, November 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at , Turning Point Church Indianapolis , Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
James will be remembered for his generosity, his dedication to family, and his unwavering faith. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
