James McFerrin BainDes MoinesJames Bain passed away on December 31, 2016 at the age of 88. He was born on March 29, 1928, to Moses Frye and Elizabeth McFerrin Bain and was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and an East High graduate.As a teen, he set pins at a bowling alley and worked at Decca Records, experiences that sparked his love of bowling and all types of music.As an adult, Jim worked at Gale's Upholstery with his father in-law and later retired from Super Valu Warehouse where he was a member of Teamsters Local 147. He also worked for several contractors as a skilled carpenter.Jim is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Pat; daughters, Dianna (Gerald) Granberg and Shelley Bain; grandchildren, Shanna (Mike) Schreurs and Bryce (Dana) Granberg; great-grandchildren, Zach, Addi, Amber and Chase; cousin, Isabel Hatfield and a host of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Archie.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Family will greet visitors an hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Bidwell Riverside Center.
