Mr. James Gatz, 32 of Long Island, New York died on October 1st, 1922 at his residence located in West Egg. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 6th, 1922 at Crestwood. Funeral Home and Cremation Services. The Rev. Terry Lawrence will officiate. Mr. Gatz was born on May 30th, 1890 in North Dakota to Henry Gatz and the late Mary Gatz.
Mr. Gatz served in the Great war and enlisted as a dough boy in the American Expeditionary Forces. In the Great War he gained a medal from Montengro for Valor. After the Great War Mr. Gatz built his money from nothing and became something. He used this money to live up to the American dream, which insisted on buying things like custom cars, a mansion, and parties almost weekend. James loved having people over every weekend night, he always loved company. In his free time Mr. Gatz liked to watch the green doc light across the bay symbolizing his love for his old partner Daisy Fay Buchanan(who he had met while he was in the Great War). He also liked to envision a better vision for himself and for the people around him. He often seems somewhat distracted or detached from what's happening around him.
Towards the end of his life, he met one of the best people to support him (Nick Carraway)on his journey back to back to his cold lover Daisy. From what Nick had to say about Gatz he said "He had one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced, or seemed to face, the whole external world for an instant and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor." He also had to say The truth was that Jay Gatsby, of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself. "He was a son of God—a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that—and he must be about His Father's Business, the service of a vast, vulgar and meretricious beauty.” There is only one survivor of the Gatz family which is Henry Gatz (Father).Pallbearers will include Nick Carraway, Owl Eyes,3 servants of Mr. Gatz and Henry Gatz. Family and friends of Mr.Gatz will recive supporters and the media on Wednesday from 1pm until the service hour at Crestwood Funeral home.
