James "Phil" Philip Hurford, age 94, of Greenbush, formerly of Berkley, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2016 at home with his family by his side. He was born on July 25, 1921 in Caro to the late Carl and Iris Hurford (Agar). Phil was proud of his time served in the United States Army. He served during World War II in San Antonio, Texas. Phil graduated from Caro High School and went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and two master's degrees from the University of Michigan. He worked for Highland Park Community College as an accounting professor. Phil was a member of the Oscoda Yacht Club. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bird hunting, boating and working in the yard. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Hurford, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1950; children, Tom (Billi Jo) Hurford and Sue Hurford; and several nieces and nephews.
