James PhillipsNovember 12, 1931 - November 25, 2016Salem - Jim passed away at his home on November 25, 2016. He was born on November 12, 1931 in Ryderwood, WA. to Bert & Virginia Phillips. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp where he served in Korea as a tank mechanic. Upon Completing his service he moved to Oregon to work in the logging industry. In 1958 he went to work for the Oregon State Police, rose to the rank of Captain, and headed up the traffic division for the state. He retired in 1982. As a retiree he supervised security at the Legislature and the Oregon Lottery. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with family. Jim is survived by his wife Elaine Phillips of 61 years, son Russell Phillips, two daughters Janette Dean, and Joyce Tonneson, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. On May 13, 2017 at 12:30pm a Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Dick & Joyce Tonneson, 3842 SW Coronado, Portland, Oregon 97219. Light lunch & beverage provided.
