Inna Lillahi wa Inna llayhi Raji'un
Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him is our return.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James Mayo Abdul Kabir, 64, of Jamaica, NY. He passed away on November 1, 2024. He was a beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
James Richard Mayo also known as Abdul Kabir ("Lil' Jimmy") was born August 17, 1960 in Queens, NY to Helen Elizabeth Mayo and James Mitchell, whom he is predeceased by. He enjoyed sports, notably basketball, in his early youth. He attended Bayside High School. In his early working days, he worked for the New York Telephone Company and later Sid Harvey Industries. He married Debra Potter, yielding his sons James Mayo Jr. and Tyrone Potter. He found Allah in adulthood.
James Mayo was a comedian who had no boundaries between a stage show and regular life. He had a remarkable talent for delivering the most unexpected words at just the right time, always managing to catch people off guard in the best way.
He kept his loved ones and friends laughing because he could find humor in the most mundane life circumstances.
As a Muslim, James understood the temporary nature of this world and lived his life with sincerity and a striving to please Allah (SWT). He was a man who took pride in his faith, and we pray that Allah grants him Jannatul Firdous, the highest place in Paradise, and forgives any shortcomings.
He is survived by children James Mayo Jr of Jamaica, NY, Tyrone Potter of Millersville, MD; grandchildren, Skylar Potter of Millersville, MD, Jah Potter of Millersville, MD; brothers, Mustafa Abdur-Rahim of NJ, William Mayo of Jamaica, NY, Keith Mayo of Brentwood, NY; sister-in-law Sandra Mayo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His passing leaves a void in our hearts, but we find solace in the knowledge that death is a return to our Creator, and we trust that Allah’s mercy is vast.
A Janazah (funeral prayer) will be held at Paak funeral home 5834 Catalpa Ave # A, Ridgewood, NY 11385 Saturday November 16, 2024 9am sharp, with the burial to follow Forest Green Park Cemetery 535 TEXAS RD, Morganville, NJ 07751 Saturday November 16, 2024 . “Every soul shall taste death.” (Quran 3:185)
