James Richard CurrieMidlandJames Richard Currie, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to be with our Lord on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, surrounded by his family. James was born on Feb. 2, 1928 in San Angelo, Texas to the late Stephen Calverley Currie and Mary Dimple Cox Currie. He came home to the Ranch in Glasscock County where he lived for 88 years.He attended Texas Tech University and
University of Texas. In 1951 he entered the
Army and served as a military police instructor at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. That same year he married the love of his life, Jimmie Ruth Hayes. James was an avid rancher, hunter, fisherman and golfer. When he was not at the ranch he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and studying the word of God. James is survived by his loving wife, Jimmie; two daughters: Cynthia Howard and her husband, Bill, of Midland and Darla Taylor and her husband Craig, of Midland; his five grandsons: Stephen, Chris and Richard Howard, and James and Will Taylor; and five great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford Barnes, Barry Beal, Dr. Richard Byrd, Jose Luis Cardenas, Rick Glasscock, Jim Hall, Richard Johnson, Jax Poteet, Dennis Seidenberger and Frank Sitterle.James' memorial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Midland. In lieu of flowers, it is requested a donation be made in James' name to Midland Memorial Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Picke & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
