James S. Collins, 90, of Franklin Twp., passed away on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at the Hospice of Sacred Heart, Dunmore. His wife of 68 years, Monoka N. (Nicholson) Collins, survives.He was born on December 6, 1924 in Glenville, W.V., to the late Boyd C. and Dovie O. (Somerville) Collins.Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Pat Collins, Bernardsville, N.J.; two daughters and son-in-law, Marsha and Clyde Bailes, Summersville, W.V., Jane Passantino, Cleveland, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Marlene Collins, Wardensville, W.V.; sister-in-law, Betty S. Collins, Culpepper, Va.; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Winston Collins.Jim graduated from Glenville State College, Glenville, W.V., and received a Master's Degree and Doctorate from Columbia University, NYC. He spent 32 years in Education; mostly in New Jersey; and retired as Superintendent in Chatham, N.J. Jim was a WW II Army Air Corps veteran flying 30 combat missions as radio/gunner on a B 17; serving in the 490th Bomber Group in the 8th Air Force. Jim grew up on a farm, and loved the land, and always appreciated the natural beauty of this country. He spent endless hours around his cabin home, hunting, fishing, and communing with God and nature. He inherited his father's love of people. He never knew a stranger and spent hours telling about his upbringing, his army services, his devotion to his career, and the undying love for his family. He will live in their hearts always. A Memorial Service will be held next spring, at the Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were through the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home.
