JAMES FRANCIS SLATTERY, 64 FITCHBURG, Wis. - James Francis Slattery, age 64, died on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at his home, after a lengthy cancer illness. He was born on Sept. 10, 1950, in Freeport, Ill., the son of James F. Slattery and Mildred (Krell) Slattery. James married Bobbie King in 1988. They had one son, James. He graduated from Aquin High School in Freeport in 1968. James attended Arizona State University. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal. James worked on the railroad as did his father and grandfather for 10 years. In 1984, he started a telephone company in Madison and worked in telecommunications until 2012. James was an avid skier, a member of the ski patrol and race team at Tyrol Basin. He was a volunteer coach for his son's basketball, football, and rollerblade teams. James raced cars and was a member of the 150 MPH Club at the Bonneville Salt Flats. He is survived by his wife Bobbie; son, James; brothers, Randall and Robert; sister, Gloria; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady Queen Of Peace, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at Gunderson Fitchburg Funeral Home, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
