James Gordon Stanley1925-2016James Gordon Stanley died on August 20, 2016. Jim was born on February 13, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up there until he attended Tennessee Military Institute to prepare for college. He studied, played football, and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta (Theta Chapter) at the University of Alabama where he graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. During college, Jim served in the US Navy's V-12 Program and later in the USNR (Lt. ret.). After he graduated school, he enjoyed a long and successful career as an engineer working for Martin, Brown Engineering, and Dow Chemical. He enjoyed history, football, travel, and, most especially, flying. He had a private pilot license, worked on the Apollo Project in Cape Canaveral, Florida, authored numerous articles regarding aviation, and in retirement he was a docent at the Seattle Museum of Flight. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by the large family he leaves behind. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Gordon Stanley & Amy Irene Crocker Stanley. Jim is survived by his daughters Cynthia Ruth Stanley Kato and her husband Dan, and Pamela Stanley Hopton and her husband Ricky and his sons Gordon Bruce Stanley, James Alan Stanley and his wife Paula, and Joseph Christopher Stanley and his wife Irmi. He is also survived by his grandchildren Natalie Kato and her husband Tim Nungesser, Darcy Earnst and her husband Steve, Gil Hopton and his wife Allison, Carrie Dellapenna and her husband Ryan, Chelsea Steckler and her husband Shane, James Alexander Stanley, John Gabriel Stanley, Joseph Christopher Stanley, Jr., and Verena Justine Stanley. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren William Robert and Hannah June Earnst, Gracie and Marley Hopton, and Tony Dellapenna. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of forty-six years, Patricia Stanley. He is survived by his step-children Wayne Virene and his wife Mia, Bruce Virene and his wife Terry Turon, Gary Virene; and Becky Van Eenenaam. He is also survived by he and Patricia's grandchildren: Shawn and his wife Shelly, Gabriel and his wife Holly, Joe and his wife Anna, Patrick and his wife Kristine, and Timothy and his wife Lauren Virene and Cory Van Eenenaam, as well as their great grandchildren, Thomas, Mia, Adelyn and Henry Virene. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 2:00 pm, at Magnolia Funeral Home, 811 South Magnolia, Magnolia, Texas 77355.
