James Walter Camp Obituary

Dec 25, 1933 - Nov 12, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
James Walter Camp went by Jeff to family and friends; father to six, Jeff passed away on November 12, 2016, from a long bout of cancer. He was 82. Jeff was born on December 25, 1933, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to a family of nine children. The Camp family soon moved to Casa Grande, Arizona, where Jeff lived out his childhood. At age 20, he was drafted into the Korean war; he served four years in the United States Army. The majority of Jeff's service took place near Seattle, Washington, where he met his first wife, Bette, at a hopping USO dance. Jeff and Bette were terrific at the jitter-bug. They married in 1957, Bette already a mother of four. By the time they relocated from Ballard to Everett, Washington in 1966, Jeff and Bette's family grew by three. The kids were raised in Everett, with Jeff a career-long truck-driver and Bette a diligent volunteer in the community. Jeff also coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball; Everett was home to the Camp family for many years. ' Jeff saw a great deal of the USA from the road. He enjoyed the arid climate of the Southwest, the elk hunting of the Pacific Northwest. Jeff's interests varied quietly and deeply: he was an avid reader of Louis L'amour; a lifelong viewer of just about any western movie; and an early fan of the OutLaw country music entertainers, from Waylon Jennings to Johnny Cash. In 1996, ten years after Bette's death, Jeff retired from Georgia-Pacific Co. He eventually remarried and resettled in Holbrook, Arizona. There, he gardened and scouted out petrified wood with his wife, Dawn, and their two beagles. He lead a resilient fight with cancer for the remainder of his life. Jeff is survived by Dawn, and his six children: John Carlstead, Terry Blank, Rebecca Carlstead, Brian Camp, Rocky Camp and Cherie Camp. A memorial service for James "Jeff" Walter Camp will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. The family suggests that attendees make a donation to the cancer .
