James Walter Luchessa, 86 of Soledad passed away, Tuesday, December 30, 2014. He was born April 15, 1928 in Soledad, CA. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Watsonville and served in the U.S. Navy. Jim was a member of the Swiss American Club and was an avid marksman and member of the Swiss Rifle Club. He worked on his dad's dairy milking cows for many years. Then moved to the Soledad Mission District where he farmed the family farm for 50+ years. For many years, Jim was an assistant manager for the Soledad Little League Team The Bears. He was also an umpire for the Little League and Senior Leagues of Soledad. Anyone who knew Jimmy, knew he loved a lot. Growing up, he would smile and wave at people. Asking Who's that? Dad would say, "I don't know!" And then he would laugh. Everyone was his friend even those he didn't know. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Perina Luchessa; sister, Lena Borzini; brother, Herman Luchessa. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dora Luchessa of Soledad; sisters, Elsie Alciati of Morgan Hill, Mary Borzini of Greenfield, Jane McLean of Watsonville; son, Steve Luchessa of Soledad; daughter, Joyce (Lex) Camany of Royal Oaks, CA.; grandsons, Joshua (Gillian) Camany of Castroville, Noah Camany of Prunedale, David Camany of Salinas; granddaughter, Sara Camany of Royal Oaks; great grandson, Ryan Camany of Castroville; and great granddaughter, Lily Camany of Castroville; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who he loved dearly. The family would like to thank all those at the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital; the surgeons, doctors, nurses and visiting nurses who attended to him. Everyone did a wonderful job keeping up with him! At Mr. Luchessa's request, there will be a private family service at later date. Donation can be made to Donor's Favorite Charity or Visiting Nurses.
