Campbell, James William ("Jim"), age 90, of Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Baltimore and Ocean City, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Hospice by the Sea on July 22, 2017. He was born on July 4, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Irish immigrant Mae Josephine Long Campbell of County Cork, Ireland. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Deborah L. (Green) Campbell. Jim was predeceased by his loving son James M. Campbell of Baltimore, MD. He is survived by his loving and devoted son Michael B. Campbell and wife Leisa of Baltimore, Maryland, grandson US Army Capt. Jason A. Slone and wife Faith, and great-granddaughter Madison Jane Slone of Fort Irwin, California; granddaughter Megan Rose Campbell (fiancé James See) of Finksburg, Maryland; and grandson Colin James Campbell of Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by nieces Maria (Robie) McCarthy of Walthamstow, England and Sheila (Donal) Duggan of Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland, nephew Anthony Campbell (Eileen) of North Hants, England and great-nephews Robert McCarthy, Jon-Paul McCarthy, Daniel Duggan and Stephen Campbell. Jim served in the US Army during
World War II at Fort Meade, Maryland and was honorably discharged in 1946. Using the GI Bill he attend Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland and graduated in 1953. Thereafter he embarked upon a 30 year career as an interior decorator and artist. He was known for his vivid colors in the beautiful still life paintings he completed throughout his lifetime. Decorating was his profession, but painting was his passion. Jim's love of classical music led him to learn to play the piano and become a classical radio announcer. He also fenced at Johns Hopkins University and participated in competitions at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He was a six handicap golfer and avid tennis player. As a professional tour director he traveled all over the world. His love of travel inspired him to attend night school to study languages and he was conversant in French, Italian, Spanish and German. While on a trip to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany in September 1977, he met his wife Debbie. They were engaged in December and married on February 24, 1978. Jim was also a licensed real estate broker and developer in Ocean City, Maryland before retiring to South Florida in 1986. He held an SEC license and sold stock in the first cable TV system in Baltimore County, Maryland. The family will gather at a later date in Maryland to celebrate Jim's life and scatter his ashes at sea.
