Jan David StewardJan David Steward went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 4:45AM. He was born on April 19, 1939 in Lima, Ohio to Earl Lorraine and Cynthia Mae (Schiffer) Steward. Jan joined the U.S. Marine Corp in August of 1956 and did his basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He proudly served until his honorable discharged in 1959. On September 13, 1959, Jan married Deanna Brook Reppert in the First Church of God in Lima, Ohio. They honeymooned out to California in their 1937 Chevy Coupe. Jan followed in his Father's footsteps working in the newspaper trade as a Stereotyper in 1959 and worked for various newspapers which included: Los Angeles Herald Examiner, Colorado Springs Sun, Seattle Times, Post Intelligencer, Everett Herald, Bremerton Sun and Tacoma News Tribune for the next 20 years. When Jan's trade came to an end with newer technology, he then became a counselor for troubled boys at Kamp Kachess located ten miles from the Snoqualmie Summit. He found the work very challenging but very rewarding. Jan moved his family to South Cle Elum in 1974 to begin their new adventure in the "Upper County". His son, Chris was a 7th grader at Walter Strom Junior High and daughters Judy and Jenny where 3rd graders at Cle Elum Elementary. His wife, Deanna became a School Bus Driver in 1975. The family would live in Roslyn for a time and presently are living in Cle Elum. Jan made a career move and became a van driver for KCAC where he served for nine years. When that job came to a close, he went to work for Lake Easton State Park to work as a Park Aid during the summers and during the winters drove shuttle bus for the Snoqualmie Ski Resort. In 1993, Jan became an Aid with the School District retiring in 2004. During retirement, he continued to shuttle the skiers on the summit until 2014 and until his death he volunteered at the Elementary for Noon recess where all the kids knew him as "Jan Jan".We are going to miss his endless supply of jokes and riddles that he so tirelessly shared to anyone with a listening ear. Jan was also quite a craftsman in birdhouses, Christmas wrapping centers, tool boxes and solar light creations. His family believes that most everyone in the "Upper County" probably has in their possession one or more of his humorous riddle pieces he loved to give to get a smile or a chuckle was his diamond pins, 3 piece chicken dinners, tax shelters and spotted dowels. Jan really loved and served the Lord. A couple of his favorite bible verses John 3:16 and Jeremiah 29:11 &12. He would want everyone to know of his Savior's love so some day he can greet each of you at the Pearly Gate with his beautiful smile. We love you so much and will miss your strong presence dearly. He is survived by his loving wife Deanna; daughter Jenny Steward; son Chris (Angie) Steward; sister Lynn Steward; grandsons Owen and Joshua; sister-in-law Judy Smith; brothers-in-law Fred (Linda) Reppert, Joe Reppert, Tom (Rychele) Reppert and their families. Jan was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Judy Steward and an infant daughter.Visitation will be from 3pm to 6pm, Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Alliance Church in South Cle Elum.
