Jan Michael Miller MT. PLEASANT - Jan Michael Miller, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest with his family by his side on Thursday, October 13, 2016. He was born on Wednesday, September 7, 1938 in Columbia, SC to the late Mrs. Rubie Rikard Miller and the late Mr. Harvey Thomas Miller. Jan attended McColl High School and graduated from Laurenburg High School in North Carolina in 1956. He ran track and played football while in High School. He attended Newberry College from 1957-1960, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration. Upon graduating, Jan proudly served his country in the
United States Air Force from July 13, 1961 to July 12, 1965. He was stationed at Yokota air base, Fussa, Japan and Westover Air Base Chicopee Falls, Mass. After an honorable discharge, Jan had a distinguished career in data processing, systems design and systems implementation that began in 1965 with Springs Mills in Lancaster, SC and led to Electronic Data Systems in Atlanta, GA., C&S Systems in Columbia, SC and finally National Bank of South Carolina in Sumter, SC where he served as Operations Manager before retiring in 1997. Jan enjoyed domestic and international travel with his wife and family. His favorite destination was Istanbul, Turkey. He also enjoyed playing horse shoes, shooting pool, water skiing, golf, running, tennis and was an avid reader. He once climbed Mount Fuji, on the island of Honshu, Japan with friends. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, leader and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Alice Starnes Miller, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Michael Anthony Miller, of Fort Mill, SC; daughter, Elizabeth M. Morrison (Brad), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Sister, Martha Broach, of Florence, SC; four grandchildren, Logan, Peyton, Gabe, and Abby; and many loving friends. A Memorial Service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Sunday, October 16, 2016_ at 2;00 PM with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
